…and decided that what the Internet really needs is another blog of some bloke and his opinions.
You shouldn’t start panicking too soon, though, because I’ve had this idea a few times in the past. I – very briefly – had the idea back in the early 2010’s that I could do a decent line in writing content about video games… but that didn’t last long.
I don’t get much time for video games these days, which is why this is a cyber / tech / parenting blog – <sarcasm> because none of those demand any considerable time investments at all, no sir! </sarcasm> No doubt I’ll end up going off on some tangent or other down the line, I’m sure, but these are the “big three” that I’m aiming to have as the focus of the site.
Why are these the focus?
Simple, really.
Cyber(Security)
Cybersecurity – or “cyber” for short – is an area of keen interest for me, in no small part because it’s a large part of what I do for a living.
Do I know everything there is to know about it? Of course not.
Am I going to try and share what I do know, in an accessible and straightforward way? For sure.
Tech(nology)
I’ve always been a “nerd”. I’m that guy who reads the ****ing manual, and I’ve written a couple in my time. I like tinkering with things, see how they work, what they can do, and figuring out what’s going on when they don’t do what they ought to.
Tech is instrumental in all our lives these days whether we like it or not, and whether we understand it or not. We all know someone who says things like “I don’t understand computers“, or “Mobile phones were much simpler in my day“, right?
I’ll try and cover interesting / useful tech, as I see it, without – if I can help it – getting too mansplainy about it.
Parenting
Like the rest of you, I haven’t always been a parent but much to my wife’s… let’s say irritation and occasional mild amusement, I have been happily cracking “dad jokes” for years.
Yes, they’re often bad (or so my wife tells me). Yes, I do love a good (bad) pun. No, I’m not going to keep them to myself. 😀
In this day and age it’s impossible to be a parent and not have any involvement with technology, and I think you can say the same about cyber – even if you’re not using the term “cyber” when thinking about, say, how to manage the potential pitfalls of giving your kid(s) a phone or a tablet.
I’m no expert when it comes to parenting, believe me. What I am is a bloke just trying to be a good Dad, learning along the way and – yes – failing now and then too.
If I find / learn / stumble across something which I’ve found to be helpful, I’ll share it here.
I think that’s enough for one post, eh? One last thing before I go, though: this whole site is still a bit of a “work in progress”, so there’s some placeholder content and generic copy floating about in places.
I’ll get to work fleshing the site out over the coming weeks.
Catch you on the next one.
